Flooring Installation with Color Interiors

A beautiful new floor depends on more than the material you choose. The condition of the surface beneath it, the measurements, the preparation, and the installation all affect the finished result. At Color Interiors Design Center, your flooring purchase and installation are managed as one seamless project. A dedicated Project Manager helps you choose a first-quality product, reviews the scope of work, coordinates the installation team, and stays your primary point of contact if questions arise.

Family-owned and locally operated since 1972, Color Interiors serves homeowners, builders, and designers across Montgomery County and the Greater Houston area. Approximately 90% of the products we sell are professionally installed through Color Interiors. Our trusted teams include third-generation installers, and both installers and Project Managers receive monthly product and installation training. You can explore products in person at our design centers in Conroe, Magnolia, and The Woodlands and work with a team that knows both the materials and the craftsmanship required to install them.

What Makes Our Flooring Installation Process Different

Color Interiors brings product selection, project planning, and installation coordination together. Here is what that means for your project:

  • One Project Manager throughout: Your Project Manager helps with selection, measurements or plan review, quantities, ordering, scheduling, and installation questions. You do not have to piece together separate material and labor providers.
  • A quote built around the actual work: Your Project Manager reviews the selected product, expected preparation, transitions, trim, removal, and other known details so you can see what the proposal includes before installation begins.
  • First-quality products and experienced teams: Color Interiors does not sell off-goods, seconds, or irregular material. Its trusted installation teams include third-generation installers, supported by ongoing product and installation training.
  • Support after installation: Color Interiors retains project records reaching back approximately 20 years. Your Project Manager remains the place to start for installation concerns or applicable manufacturer warranty questions.
Flooring selection process

From Flooring Selection to a Finished Floor

1. Compare Products in a Design Center

Tell your Project Manager how the room is used and what matters most to you, from pets and everyday spills to comfort, maintenance, style, and budget. Compare hardwood, luxury vinyl, laminate, carpet, and tile while discussing which products suit the room and its installation conditions.

2. Measure and Review the Installation Scope

For installed residential projects, your Project Manager typically coordinates a measure or verifies plans and takeoffs. The proposal identifies the product and quantity along with known removal, subfloor preparation, transitions, trim, and other work. Review it together, including anything you will need to arrange separately, before approving the project.

3. Order Materials and Schedule the Work

After the product, quantities, and scope are confirmed, your Project Manager coordinates the order and installation schedule. Timing varies with product availability, room size, demolition, surface preparation, stairs, access, and curing requirements. You will receive a timeline based on your project.

Prepare Your Home Before Installation Day

Once the work is scheduled, use your proposal and your Project Manager’s instructions to get your home ready:

  • Clear personal items: Remove small belongings, fragile items, electronics, lamps, valuables, and wall décor near work areas.
  • Verify furniture moving: Confirm whether furniture moving is included in your proposal, and clear closets or designated rooms accordingly.
  • Protect and secure pets: Keep pets secured safely away from active work zones, tools, adhesives, and exterior doors.
  • Clear paths and work areas: Ensure a clear, accessible pathway from exterior doors for the installation crew and materials.
  • Coordinate fixtures and appliances: Review who will disconnect and reset toilets, appliances, baseboards, trim, and doors. Some gas, water, and electrical connections require a licensed trade.
  • Plan for dust control: Cover or relocate sensitive belongings in nearby rooms, as demolition and subfloor preparation can generate dust.

What Happens During Flooring Installation

The installation team completes the removal, substrate preparation, and new flooring installation outlined in your approved proposal. During this stage:

  • Multiday site access: Depending on the square footage, materials, and room layout, crews may need access across several days.
  • Addressing unexpected subfloor conditions: Removing old flooring can reveal uneven slabs, damaged subfloors, or excess moisture. If grinding, leveling, patching, or moisture mitigation is needed, your Project Manager will explain the findings and discuss any scope or cost adjustments before proceeding.
  • Moisture testing and acclimation: Southeast Texas humidity requires careful environmental management. Materials are acclimated according to manufacturer specifications, and the home must maintain normal conditioned indoor temperature and humidity before, during, and after installation.

After Your New Floor Is Installed

Taking the right initial steps protects your investment and preserves manufacturer warranties:

  • Observe cure and set times: Follow the crew’s specific guidance on when to walk on the floor, return furniture, and begin regular cleaning. Floating, glued, and grouted installations require different curing windows.
  • Save attic stock: Keep leftover flooring cartons from the original run or dye lot. Having matching attic stock makes future localized repairs simpler if a product is discontinued.
  • Direct post-installation support: If questions or concerns arise, contact your Project Manager directly. Color Interiors stands behind its work with an installation warranty and assists with applicable manufacturer warranty claims.

Flooring Installation FAQs

For most floor installations, Color Interiors generally plans for approximately 10% additional material to account for cuts, room layout, waste, and attic stock. For wall applications such as backsplashes and shower walls, we plan for approximately 20%. Patterns, stairs, or specialty layouts may require additional material.

Yes. Keeping attic stock from the original dye lot, color, or production run is essential for future repairs if a matching product is later discontinued.

Conditions beneath existing flooring cannot always be fully assessed until demolition. If the slab or subfloor is uneven, damaged, or holds excess moisture, extra patching, grinding, leveling, or moisture mitigation may be necessary to meet manufacturer installation specifications.

Sometimes. A change in finished floor height can affect door clearances and transitions. Door trimming and carpentry are handled only when specifically arranged in your project scope.

That depends on your proposal. Existing trim may remain in place, be removed and reinstalled, or be replaced with new molding. Painting and touch-up work are typically separate unless specified in your scope.

Furniture moving depends on your proposal. Some projects include furniture moving and some do not. Confirm which pieces need to be cleared and who is responsible before installation day.

Plumbing resets are normally the homeowner’s responsibility unless specifically arranged in advance. Appliance moving and reconnection vary by project, and gas, water, or electrical connections may require a licensed trade.

Often, yes. It depends on the size of the project, noise, dust, adhesives, and whether kitchens or essential bathrooms are involved. Your Project Manager will discuss the work sequence with you.

Keep pets secured away from active work areas and exterior doors. Installation can involve noise, dust, adhesives, tools, and repeated trips in and out of the home.

That depends on the product and installation method. Floating floors may be available sooner than glued or grouted installations. Follow the installer and manufacturer cure-time guidance.

Timing depends on the flooring and adhesives or grout involved. Heavy furniture should not be returned until the installation system has reached the appropriate cure or set time.

Often yes, but it depends on the size and location of the project, dust, noise, access, adhesives, and whether essential rooms are affected.

Your Color Interiors Project Manager is your primary point of contact for selections, ordering, scheduling, installation coordination, and project questions.

Contact your Project Manager. Color Interiors keeps project records and works through installation or manufacturer warranty processes when applicable rather than leaving the customer to determine the next step alone.

Yes. Color Interiors installs approximately 90% of the products it sells, using trusted installation teams familiar with the products and the expectations of the company.
